About VičMUN |
|
VičMUN is a Model United Nations conference held and organised by Gimnazija Vič in Ljubljana, Slovenia. This is the second VičMUN conference after a long hiatus and we strive to make it a wonderful and memorable experience for all. VičMUN offers the opportunity for students to cooperate for a common purpose, discuss contemporary issues in the world, and engage with other like-minded people on topics which are both interesting and important. Delegates can develop key skills which are becoming increasingly necessary for our generation, such as debating skills, critical and creative thinking, etc. |
Model United Nations, also known as model UN or MUN, is an educational simulation in which students learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations. At MUN conferences, students work as the representative of a country, organization, or person, and must solve a problem with other delegates from around the world.
Students represent countries different from their own. During the debates, the delegates need to stick to the policies, beliefs, and views of their represented country, even if it does not match their own opinions. The participating students also have to bear in mind the dress code. The delegates sit in different committees, either in ones existing in the real United Nations, or in ones specifically created for MUNs. The working process simulates the original system such as creating an agenda, having debating sessions, drafting and passing resolutions, and voting. The main aim of the committees is to write and adapt a resolution which is accepted by the majority of the delegations.
October 3rd 2017 - MiniMUN 2017, a one day simulation of other larger MUN (Model United Nations) conferences. Around 60 students and mentors, from five different Slovenian schools, participated.

The meeting was primarily aimed at introducing our students and our guests to the MUN movement, raising awareness of current global problems and finding solutions to them, as well providing young people from different regions of Slovenia a chance to socialise.
October 4th 2019 - MiniMUN 2019, a simulation of the United Nations conference (Model United Nations) organized by students of the UNESCO club. The conference was attended by students from all over Slovenia, taking in a wide range of towns and cities.
September 29th 2023 - VičMUN 2023, a two-day Model United Nations conference, organised by the student UNESCO club. The conference was attended by high-school students from all over Slovenia that debated in the Security and Human Rights Council.
Gimnazija Vič is a secondary school in Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia. Just a short walk from the city centre, it has been providing a high level of education across a wide range of subjects to students for over 90 years. Although work in the classroom is important, the school takes pride in its broad range of extracurricular activities which allow students to pursue and develop their own interests and talents.
In everything we do, the idea of cooperation with other institutions and organisations is important to us. Our experiences have shown that by working with people and groups in Slovenia and in other countries around the world, we are able to give the best possible opportunities to our students.
